Planktonic Algae Description:
Planktonic algae does not form a mass or mats on the surface. They are free-floating microscopic plants which can be found floating on the top few feet of water in ponds or lakes. Planktonic algae requires light so they may produce food by photosynthesis. The algae colors the water in various shades of greens, blue greens and brown. When millions of algae grow in the water, it is referred to as a bloom.
Planktonic algae is important to the aquatic food chain. It also helps to shade areas of water which will then lessen the establishment of rooted aquatic plants. However, as seen with most aquatic plants, too much Planktonic algae can be the cause of oxygen depletion and lead to fish kills. CLEAN-FLO uses natural non-chemical aeration and bioaugmentation strategies to keep planktonic algae under control, while improving the entire water body.
Planktonic Algae Identification:
- Spherical or elongated cells may be identified with a microscope.
- Can be confused with muddy water.
- Gives water a thick green or blue-green paint-like appearance.
- Gives water an odor.
How Can CLEAN-FLO Help You In Reducing Planktonic Algae?
Installing one of our inversion oxygenation systems along with the products below is the best way to naturally reduce Planktonic Algae.
Bio Booster – Bio Booster is designed to increase diatom populations and reduce nutrients needed by algae.
Bio Stimulator – Bio-Stimulator stimulates and enhances natural microbial populations in situ for increased nutrient and muck reduction.
