Uwchlan Township, PA, April 3, 2006 – Township officials announced plans to clean as much as four feet of muck, aquatic weeds and pond algae from the Dowling Forge Pond. In order to accomplish this goal, the Parks Department has enlisted the help of CLEAN-FLO International, a West Chester, PA business. Park officials have stated residents are excited about the pond being restored to its full beauty and overall usefulness.

CLEAN-FLO will install three diffusers into the .7 acre pond which will eventually add 40 inches of clear water to the overall depth. Says township spokesman Jeff Cottier:

“Our hope for the CLEAN-FLO Natural Diffuser system is to get the pond cleaned up and a couple of feet deeper. In years past, the surface of this pond is solid with green algae, and we’ve tried fountains, a different form of aerator (PVC piping with diffused air), and chemicals. Only the chemicals have worked. The problem with chemicals is that they are a temporary solution, and they disrupt the environment. A lot of people fish in this pond, and we want them to be able to eat the fish they catch!”

“We chose the CLEAN-FLO pond diffuser system because it makes sense. [They] addressed each of our issues, the algae, the bottom muck, and the weed growth with a solution that naturally will correct each problem permanently. We feel that with the CLEAN-FLO diffusers in place and a little maintenance on our part, this pond will be clean and usable for our residents from now on.”

“To help clean up our nine parks for residents, we’ve also hired a new employee – Grace. Grace is a trained “goose dog”, owned by the township, and she has made a huge difference in keeping geese off the ponds and out of the parks.”
