No Stain
No-Stain is a non-acidic cleaner for removing and preventing copper stains on the walls of copper ionized swimming pools without depleting active copper ions in the pool water, or corroding elemental copper fittings. It can be used for removing iron, or other metal stains also. No-Stain is compatible with all other pool chemicals. It can be used in spas as well.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE USE OF NO-STAIN
Day 1
1. Add 1 quart No-Stain
2. Make sure pool pumps & filters are ON
3. Let run for 10 minutes
4. Add 1 quart of algaecide (no metal magnet or copper sulfate) – Aquachem is a good product for this.
5. Turn pool OFF and add 4 gallons muratic acid. If stain persists, add additional gallons until stain begins to disappear. Do not exceed one gallon for each 2,500 gallons of water.
6. If stain is not gone, let pool sit one or two more days until stain is removed. This will be a rare occurrence that this will be needed.
AS SOON AS THE STAIN IS GONE, OR AFTER A MAXIMUM OF TWO DAYS
1. Check pH and alkalinity – adjust pH using sodium hydroxide – dissolve sodium hydroxide in water before adding. Alkalinity should be in the range of 75 to 125 ppm. (4-7 grains per gallon).
2. Check copper level – get the copper level below 5 ppm or the copper may re-attach to the pool. The copper level can be reduced by draining 1/4 to 1/2 of pool and refilling.
We are opposed to the use of a metal magnet. While more time is required initially for the draining, the problem with using a metal magnet is that it may become difficult to maintain or control a residual copper level with the ionization. In this case the ionization would need to be increased initially and could then cause staining problems again. The approach here should be to remove the stain, enable you to set the ionization system at a level which should remain steady, and through the addition of CLEAR POOL and No-Stain, to maintain a relatively hands-off operation with no problems and a beautiful pool.
3. Add 4 lbs. of CLEAR POOL for every 25,000 to 30,000 gallons of water in the pool. Repeat CLEAR POOL applications every 30 days using 2 lbs. for every 25,000 to 30,000 gallons.
4. Backwash Filter.
Note: While No-Stain is relatively harmless to metals, it is a strong alkali and brightens metals by removing the mono-atomic surface layer. It’s extended use with hydrochloric acid can be corrosive to metals. CLEAN-FLO assumes no responsibility for damage as a result of the use of No-Stain, or the process in which it is used.
