Minnow traps are commonly used by fishermen to collect minnows. Minnow traps can be added to lakes, ponds and reservoirs to trap the minnows so they cannot feed on zooplanton (insects). This enables the zooplankton to feed on algae. The minnow traps need never be tended, once they are installed. They simply stay in place, and hold the minnows for their lifetime.
